Bacon tone rings

What's the consensus on the tone rings found in Bacon FF Professional, Concert, and Orchestra banjos?

I have a couple of the FF Professionals with the doughnut ring (and internal resonator) and I like 'em a lot. However, I've never played one fitted with gut/nylon strings. All of mine are set up as OT Clawhammer banjos.
